The True Battlefield

Imagine there’s a war going on and you’re right in the middle of it. You’re completely surrounded by it, yet you can’t see it. This battle takes place every day without you even knowing.

And the sole reason this battle is going on is because of you. Good and evil are both at war to over you.

The thing is, you don’t know that they want you or even why they want you. You don’t know what their motives are.

But I do.

See, the truth is, side A is evil. Side A wants to drag you down and ruin you. They want to use you, break you.

Why?

Well here’s the thing. They’ve already lost this war and they know that. They’re just fighting to take you down with them.

Their sadistic minds drive them forward and they thrive on the thought of bringing you suffering. They’re very sneaky though. They put signs up and around the battlefield, trying to convince you to go down a dark, twisted path. They try to convince you that if you just do this, it’ll get better. If you just go to this one party, do this one thing, think this one thought. It’ll all be okay.

You start to fall for it. I mean, how would anyone know what you’re doing? You don’t have to tell anyone. Plus, you can always turn back if it gets too hectic. Why not have a bit of fun, try something new? You only live once, after all.

What you don’t know, is that the other side sees what is happening. The other side sees the whole picture, the whole path. They’re not just looking at the next step in front of you, they’re looking at the entire journey. They see how every time you take a step down that path, every time you make one more decision, side A is throwing a lasso around you. You can’t feel it yet but once you reach the end, they’ll pull those ropes and you’ll be stuck. You’ll feel enclosed, like you’re suffocating as the ropes are pulled tighter around your body. You can’t escape or go back. The evil side has won.

The good side knows this and desperately fights to save you from a horrific end. The only way you can be saved is to cry out to their leader and ask for their saving grace.

Sounds pretty crazy, doesn’t it? Almost as if it’s a scene from a novel or TV series.

But this is actually what’s happening.

In the Bible, it tells us that our battle isn’t against flesh and blood, but rather against the spiritual forces around us.

“For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”
Ephesians 6:12 (NLT)

They fight for your soul each day and you have a choice. You can take a step towards the easy, dark path or you can turn from it and run to God, allowing yourself to be saved from the traps and snares Satan has set out. You can take one step at a time towards the darkness, opening your spirit up to the turmoil and pain that the lassoes of the evil side bring. Or you can call out to Jesus and ask His presence to envelop you, bringing you peace and safety.

Embracing God’s promise of peace and protection will make every day life less of a struggle and will protect your spirit from the spiritual battle going on around you.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
John 14:27 (NIV)

If we just trust in God and trust that He sees the bigger picture, we will be okay.

The battle is in His hands, it’s already won. We just have to choose which side we’re on.
