A New Day

A new year is upon us already, it would seem. There are regrets, there are precious memories that we wouldn’t trade for anything. Sometimes, things don’t turn out the way we hoped they would. But that doesn’t mean we can’t change them. We have the chance right here, right now, to say goodbye to the mistakes of the past and move on, stepping into the light of a glorious new day. This year, 2020, this is a year that we will do things differently than before.

Maybe our plans don’t work out, maybe everything that we do collapses. But I’m okay with that. God, set us on fire. This year we do things differently, not in word, but in deed. I’m tired of seeing things the same way, being stuck in this loop, never truly changing anything in this meaningless chase. Well, no more. This year, the world will be a different place because of God’s power working through us. We’re going to do things differently. No longer will we be ashamed of the Gospel. No longer will we be afraid to try hard things. No longer will we continue in these cycles.

God’s blood spilled out for one reason: redemption. And that’s not something to take lightly anymore. That’s something worth making our anthem, no matter the cost.

We were unshackled with the purpose of unshackling the prisoners beside us. “O God Forgive Us” by for KING & COUNTRY puts it so eloquently. “Yes, we have ignored You, so busy doing Your work that we forgot that this was for you. Arms wide to our homeless saviour, but arms crossed to our homeless neighbour. On bended knee, unite us all, set us free.” Never have we been more divided as a world. But this is the year we change that. To make the change, we’re going to have to do things differently than we ever have before. It’s gonna make us uncomfortable. It’s going to make us stand out. The word won’t look at us the same way. But we’re gonna do it because there is no other way. We’re not going to make any changes by doing the same old thing that got us here.

We have to be willing to do the unthinkable. Even one person reached is worth the world. It’ll be unconventional. It may be messy. And we’ll be changed forever. Never the same, ever the better for it. This is the end of an era, but we have the once in a lifetime opportunity to shape the next one.

It will be hard. But no one ever promised to us that it would be easy. He did promise to us that He’ll be right beside us 100% of the time. If we fail on occasion, as we most certainly will… it’s not the end. This is just the beginning, and for every horrible yesterday is a brand-new tomorrow full of possibilities.

2020 is the year of redemption. 2020 is the year of the impossible. 2020 is the year of putting everything on the line, knowing that it’s worth it. This year we will be bold. This year we will be strong. This year we will be kind. This year we will be courageous. And this year, nothing will ever be the same because of it. This is my anthem. This is 2020 for me. A second chance. A new start. A time to change the world for God and for good. And no matter what it takes, this will be our anthem as we march into the new decade. This year is His. Let’s make it count.
